DIY monsterbook pencil case - Harry Potter tutorial

Here’s what you need for this cute little pencil case:

2 sheets of paper
Scissors (One for paper and one for fabric)
A printer
Brown fleece
A scrap of black fleece or felt
A Scrap of red fleece or non-fraying ribbon; This will be used to open the zipper, so it needs to be a sturdy fabric;
An off-white 8“ zipper; you can also use a longer one and trim it
Brown and black thread
Thick, white thread
Needles
Pins
Glue
And a sewing machine

And here’s how it’s done:

Print out the template.
Follow the instructions and you’ll end up with two brown 8 by 5.5 rectangles, 2 smaller and 2 bigger circles and two red ribbons with V-cutouts.

If necessary, trim your zipper to 8” and redo the stopper by hand.

Lay the circles on one of the brown rectangles like shown in the template and sew them on by hand with a black thread, starting and ending on the wrong side. Take the white yarn and thread it through the needle. Knot the end of the thread and poke it up from the back. Wrap your needle around the thread a couple of times and go back through the fabric right next to where it came up. Secure the end with a couple of strong knots and trim. Add a highlight to each eye.

Add the zipper right side down and line it up with the top. Pin everything in place and sew using about ¼ of an inch seam allowance. Repeat the same process with the other side and iron.
Open the zipper halfway, fold the fabrics right sides together, line them up and pin. Sew around once leaving a half inch seam. Don’t forget to backstitch every time you sew!

It gets a little complicated to explain now. Separate the fleece layers and put both seams of a corner on top of each other. Measure in about ¾ of an inch, pin and sew. Cut of the corner close to the seam and repeat with the other side.

Flip the case inside out using the open zipper. Put a generous amount of glue on both your red tongue pieces and secure them around the slider. Let it dry and you’re done!

If you want to, you can also add teeth by simply cutting them out and sewing them on by hand.
